I've said this before, but my wish for 2023 is that we get more new releases, and less archival re-issues. Some of the super obscure stuff has been justified and welcome, but at this stage I feel like I'm drowning in Merzbow re-issues, and my willingness to drop £30 on some vinyl on an album I already own just for 1 new extra track has waned.

I understand constant reissues are annoying and yeah, I'm not interested in spending £30 for an album I already have just got some bonus tracks.
But there were a lot of good new releases in 2022. A lot of very strong collaborations and the recent cold spring solo album was great. Will be getting the Fantail 6 X CD box next month which is full of new and unreleased recent solo recordings which I hope is good.

Urashima have just released - Cloud Cock OO Grand on 2 x LP urashima.bandcamp.com/album/cloud-cock-oo-grand?from=fanpub_fbFrom the track listing it has an extra track Spinnozaamen (Another Mix) 24:07, but seems to be missing the Modular track from original CD. I think I'm ok for vinyl re-issues at the moment as I have the CD version in the Merzbox and the Cloud Cock OO Grand (another mix) CD from the 10x6=60 box.

‘Modular’ must be missing from the new vinyl reissue because it was a live track that featured Reiko A. How different is the “another mix” version of this album from the original?

Ah that makes sense then, he's done that on quite a few other re-issues.
I'm sure the other mix is the one on the slowdown CD. Will have a listen to both today and let you know.

It's a bit different. I wouldn't say a huge amount. I've gone through the extra track on the Urashima bandcamp page and the Spinozaamen track from Tapestry of Noise-Cloud Cock OO Grand (Another Mix) and it's the same track. If you have the original CD or CD from Merzbox I wouldn't say it's different enough to warrant getting the LP version. Better to get the Slowdown CD version instead.

Thanks. I have the ‘Merzbox’ and am not planning to buy this vinyl reissue. I wouldn’t mind hearing the Slowdown Records CD as well as other ones, but they’re just too expensive to buy in Europe.

Cloud Cock OO Grand was the one that did it for me. One hit and I was Merz-addicted. Brain Forest For Metal Acoustic Concrete used to be my all time favourite track. Not sure now, but it's up there. Like you, I have the Merzbox version and also the Slowdown mix and not the original ZSF disc. Therefore, I'd love the artwork but I'm not gonna fork out for the latest edition. However, it's a must for any newbie.
I wouldn't worry about the Slowdown release. Two of the tracks are in the Merzbox, on the Hannover Cloud CD, Brain Forest omits about 10 minutes from the start of the original, and I can't remember Spinnozaamen being much different.

Has anyone here compiled a complete list of Merzbow tracks that feature Reiko A.? It might make for an interesting and handy guide to Merztracks that we can assume will be deleted from any future Merzbow reissue projects.

Relapse are doing a new remastered version of Tauromachine. Comes on 2xLP or 2xCD. CD has tracks the vinyl doesn't but not sure if track list on the bandcamp page is all the CD tracks or just the LP tracks. About 30mins of bonus tracks. Released in March. store.relapse.com/item/128255Also heard someone on Special Interests saying that Scene is getting vinyl re-issue as well at some point this year but wasn't clear what the label was.

Great news about ‘Tauromachine’! Especially since it will come out on CD as well.

Initially 'Tauromachine' getting a whole extra disc of bonus material sounded good, but on further investigation I'm slightly suspicious as to how much of this is genuinely previously unreleased stuff. Slowdown Records already released two discs of material from these sessions ('Tauro-01' and 'Tauro-02') - going by the running times it appears that the new tracks 'Head of CLouds #2' and 'Tauro Exta 9792' are directly lifted from these releases. 'Caudex Caudex' is listed as 'Mix 2', but is only 11 seconds difference in running time - is it going to be that different to the version on 'Tauro-01'?

I've got to admit I'm slightly staggered that there still seems to be an unending mass of archival stuff, even after Slowdown have issued over 100 CDs of material. Why do I get the feeling the in a couple of years we'll get yet another re-issue of 'Pulse Demon', with yet more unearthed bonus tracks?

Good question... but since I am admittedly a near-total retardo-Merzpletist, I'll be springing for both the disc and wax regardless.

Any word on what label will be releasing the upcoming, new CD-issue of Pulse Demon? I would have assumed Relapse would be behind it but a cursory search of their website produces no data.

Going by this entry on Discogs: www.discogs.com/release/26104288-Merzbow-Tauromachine-Remastered, of the four bonus tracks, only the 3 minute-long ‘Fragment 978’ hasn’t been released before in any form. The other three are as you described them. If I had those two Slowdown CDs, I’d skip this reissue (just like I passed on the vinyl reissue of ‘Green Wheels’ as I already have the original version and the split 7” with MSBR, and the vinyl/tape reissue of ‘Door Open at 8 AM’ since I have the original CD).

Why do I get the feeling the in a couple of years we'll get yet another re-issue of 'Pulse Demon', with yet more unearthed bonus tracks? Yeah, it’s insane (even if most of the material on the forthcoming reissue of ‘Tauromachine’, isn’t actually unreleased). I’ve wondered about this before: how on earth did Akita have enough time in the ‘90s (when he seems to have been the most active, but he’s certainly always been very productive) to produce this much music AND write books and magazine articles, participate in bondage video sessions, listen to music (I assume he does actually listen to that massive record collection), and supposedly do everyday stuff too like eating, sleeping, going shopping etc.? I honestly have no idea.

Had a listen to the 2 sample tracks and it doesn't sound too interesting.

Yeah I saw those. Slowdown records twitter page posts about thema lot. Was tempted but they are all in Japanese so the only way to read would be one of those apps that translate visually when you put your phone over it. I've tried one of them on Japanese food packaging and the translation is terrible. It keep changing the main word on the packet to BLOOD, very strange!
Japanese language is complicated to translate.
