Yeah, I’ve tried translating the Japanese liner notes of the CDs on Alchemy Records I have as well as those of ‘Psychorazer’ with the Google translate app, but the results are far from satisfactory. Mostly I can get a very general overview of what they’re about, but the app can’t translate the specifics correctly, and often the text makes pretty much no sense. Perhaps there are better apps though that I’m not familiar with.

Scene 2xLP is up for pre-order here - miraearts.bandcamp.com/album/sceneI have the CD already and it's not clear how long the 1 bonus track is here so will pass on this one. There was a small special edition with a wood print that look pretty nice.

Saw this photo on Merzbow's twitter - photoSeems to show 6 LP covers. 4 of which ha ve or are being released this year. The other two, one is Kaoscitron and the hidden one looks like Fantail Visions cover. Haven't seen any news about these coming out on vinyl, I'm guessing they will be on Slowdown.

Excited for this one! great to have some new sounds on CD, the reissues and archival stuff was beginning to get a bit much. Unusual change of pace, but I like the sound of it a lot.

‘CATalysis’ sounds good indeed. I’ll probably grab a copy. As a cat owner, that cover is a lovely bonus for me, haha. I’m looking forward to the reissue of that Merzbow/Null/Produktion tape too. Has anyone heard the Produktion reissue CDs Menstrual has put out? I have and like the LP reissue of their tape with Club Moral (the side with the manic vocals is especially good), but haven’t bought any of the CDs as the sound samples didn’t sound that convincing to me. I’m still curious though as I do like some of the ‘80s murky noise/power electronics stuff.

I haven't heard any of those Production reissues, will try and find some online. I'm much more interested in Merzbow reissues of impossible to find old tapes.

The ‘Plays’ CD is a good one, with a great cover, especially on the picture LP edition. It’s a shame this reissue has a different (and worse-looking) cover. If I can, I’ll get that new collaboration (whose cover on the other hand I like a lot). Based on the description, to me it seems like the first track is by Merzbow and the second by Smegma.
I got the new ‘Pulse Demon’ CD recently. The bonus track (less than four minutes long) is good. The album sounds great, and perhaps the EMS is a bit louder than on the original CD (I could be wrong though). Other than that, I didn’t hear a difference even though Akita remastered the album specifically for this CD edition, but perhaps I should A/B the two versions. Also, it seemed to me that the very first moment of the original CD was missing from the new edition. I wonder if others have noticed it too. I’ll A/B the two CDs to see if I’m right or wrong. The packaging is nice, but a bit of a poor effort compared to the original: the rainbow effect of the cover is missing, and what was surely supposed to be the spine is on the inside of the packaging, so the design was flawed. The CD is extremely difficult to get out of the pocket (I don’t really understand how this can happen when such CD packaging has been manufactured in huge numbers for a very long time), and the cover underneath the pocket is a bit overlong and looks somewhat different and out of place from the rest of the packaging.
Edit: I just checked Discogs, and much to my surprise, the first part of the new Merzbow/Smegma CD was made by John Wiese! “Composed and mixed by John Wiese using original source sounds of Smegma and Merzbow”. I don’t know if I’ve seen this before that it’s not the actual performer who’s being credited as the artist… Very strange, to say the least.

Yeah I thought that was strange too but when I looked up Smegma on discogs John Wiese is listed as a member.
Industrial Coast will be stocking the Merzbow/Smegma Cds soon for UK people.

The ‘Plays’ CD is a good one, with a great cover, especially on the picture LP edition. It’s a shame this reissue has a different (and worse-looking) cover. Sadly predictable, however. It seems that any of the 'erotic' images used in collages from this period are erased when it comes to reissues, and replaced with something bland and boring.

Any thoughts on the recent releases?
CATalysis is really good: some new noises, variety across the tracks, and cool packaging (is that my cat?) Is it a fusion of digital and analog? I dunno but I like it a lot.
Also, enjoyed the new Smegma collab 'XCIII'. If you rated the first one, 'Plays', you'll dig this: a similar barrage of loops and samples.
The Hatomatsuri cassette is one of the harshest in some time. It has a nice, thick, obliterating, burning sound. Imagine a 'War of the Worlds' soundtrack done by Merzbow. Probably a modern classic.

Hatomatsuri tape I really like, have been listening to that a lot recently. Haven't listened to the Smegma CDs yet but will hopefully play those soon. I ignored the PO Masacre lp collab thing, I listened to the samples but it didn't sound very good and Merzbow seemed a small guest on that record. Still really enjoying the Fantail Visions 6xCD box. There are some really amazing albums in that box.

Aurora Central records have said they have two new "very highly anticipated reissues coming out soon". Not sure which ones yet. I've just been getting the cassette versions from Norman records as the lps are £50-60.

I think someone on here mentioned ages ago that lots of releases on Editions Merzbow (digital label) were being reissued so maybe Electric Salad or Oersted?
I just had a look through the label on discogs and I really love the Dust Of Dreams album, quite individual feel to that album, but I don't think it's very popular.

I had a bad experience with Aurora Central so it would take something very special for me to bite again.
If you're considering buying from them, you should avoid an immediate purchase as they always lower their prices later on. It's really annoying to receive an email saying that something you bought has been reduced - do they think I'm gonna buy another one?!
I think Oersted will be next too.

Yeah I don't think I would buy direct from them again. Prices are just too high. Hopefully Norman Records will keep stocking the cassette editions as that is much cheaper.

Do you recall what the original asking price for this title via Bandcamp was?

First tape from Aurora central records is going to be -
Material Action for 2 Microphones
The second one will be announced tomorrow and they will be available for pre order. There is going to be an exclusive colour variation available from soundohm as well.
Might try soundohm as the cost of ordering tapes from this Mexican label is super high.

Any difference (other than format), between this release and the CD version in 'Merzbox'? No mention of any bonus tracks. As the three tracks are quite close in length (21-23 mins) seems an odd choice for tape unless they cut the 2nd track in half. Otherwise a lot of blank tape on one side. Or they make it a C130 with all three tracks on one side. I can't remember how long cassettes can be made. Next tape announced will be - Paradoxa Paradoxa Should be up for pre-order tomorrow (Friday) at some point.
