Ive been always facinated with the cover of albums. Merzbow gives me a great deal of covers to admire which i love but what if you had to choose one. Immagine you have every Merzbow CD on a store and you were allowed to pick one just by looking at the cover. Which one would you choose? Mine is Dust of Dreams For some reason, the cover calls me.

Dust of Dreams is one of my favorite Merzcovers. It's hard for me to pick one, but I'd have to go with Magnesia Nova. Spiral Honey, 1930, Aqua Necromancer, and Cycle are all others that I like. But something about the design of Magnesia Nova is really attractive to me.

Im also torn because i also like landscapes on covers. I love watching landscapes. But the colors on Dust of Dreams and the figures just makes me wanna hear it. Which i did and didnt liked XD

I like Glitch art and i would think that noise and a glitch art cover for a noise album would be hand in hand.
I wonder why Merzbow hasnt done one like that

Glitch art would make sense, and I really enjoy it. Being a fan of many vintage videogame and computer inspired art (both musical and visual), I have a few glitch NES and C64 images. One of my favorite chiptune artists, Goto80, does a lot with the Commodore 64 glitch aesthetic.
Anyway, Merzbow does of course use collage art; I believe he does see at least some of his work in that sense. It really makes sense not only considering the music but also the inspiration he took from Kurt Schwitters, whose Merzbau work "Merzbow" comes from. My user picture is a Kurt Schwitters piece; it seemed fitting.
Merzbow's works are collages of discarded, disregarded, disliked, or overlooked sounds. If the sound is something like drumming, it is twisted, distorted, deconstructed, degraded, what have you, to fit this aesthetic. Much in the same way, Kurt Schwitters took garbage and rubbish from the streets where he lived and used this material to make collage art.
I'm sure many people here know this already from reading about Merzbow. I just think it's a really nice way of conceiving of his work. I often visualize what Merzbow tracks would "look" like as a collage or painting. Because so much of noise is texture based, I find it to be a very rewarding view of much of the genre. It makes me wish I had synesthesia.

Hey guys, I'm sorry for necrobumping, but I thought it didn't deserve its own thread. Can anyone please tell me what's depicted on the Flare Gun cover? Is that a girl (or a doll) holding a hammer? Why is there HAMMER written upside-down in the bottom left corner?

Yeah, that's a bizarre cover. It shows a man, with his head bowed down, holding a hammer. There are also two hammers on either side, the left one upside down (the text "hammer" is actually on the head of both hammers). Here's a good photo of the cover: www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=261581. Apparently the cover wasn't done by Akita. It's a mystery to me and I also don't get how it relates to the title of the album.

I have never looked very closely at the cover of Flare Gun so that I always thought, that it shows how Akita is holding a spade One of my favorite covers is this here:

As for my favourite cover, it's hard to pick one. I'd pick Cycle, Houjoue, Hannover Interruption, Vratya Southward, KIR Transformation, Annihiloscillator from Merzbox (if these count). They just compliment the music, especially the Merzbox ones.

He has a lot of dope covers, so it would be a tough pick - if it wasn't for Merzbeat. That one really stands out for me. Actually, the more that I think about it, the more I find that it's probably my all-time favorite album cover. I think it's a perfect visual representation of that album, but even if it wasn't, I wouldn't mind, since I had already loved the fuck out of it before I first heard the record.

Talking about the beat-oriented releases on Important Records, I like the cover of Merzbird (at least it looks good on Discogs; I don't have the CD).
When it comes to the overall packaging (cover, booklet, design), I think Metalvelodrome is Merzbow's best.
