Just found this one. Only digital and under Masami Akita with others - bindata.bandcamp.com/album/opec-stbnLast track sounds quite nice, one before (based on the track title) is the same track with just the volume turned down? Super quiet. Hoping this year will see the release PiaNoise as I am very interested to hear. Who knows when that will be out though.

Handmade Birds have a new 'Yellow Series' of cassettes by some pretty notable artists. One of which is 'Tarsometatarsus' by Merzbow

Thanks for that. Does it say anywhere when these will be released? I looked at the three stores that will stock them and they are not there yet.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it'll be within March. They're only available from a handful of different distributors and it'll be down to when they receive them I guess. I do know that Dean from Outsider Art is taking reservations though.

Got the last one, and it was cool - but aaaargh - just encountered this new additional Discogs VAT charge for UK customers. Think it might have pushed what was already an expensive proposition with postage charges into 'I just can't afford spending this sort of money on a 7" single' territory. This is going to put an extra pain on what used to be a great site to pick up those obscure releases.

What’s going on? No physical product? No limited edition? No shipping fees? No trawling Tokyo record stores? It can’t be that easy! Surely, there’s some Bandcamp fees to throw a spanner in the works?

Funnily enough, I received the Sandpiper 7” and the Homemade Birds cassette this week, both are nicely packaged. The tape has a yellow piece of cloth, pretty but useless, other than as an emblem of the commitment to physical media. As predicted, I put the Bandcamp release in my basket and proceeded to checkout, only to be hit by UK VAT, which stopped me in my tracks. Am I being a twerp? It’s not expensive, certainly when compared to the shipping and tax of the Sandpiper disc. I’ll just wait for reports of tracks 2 to 4. The first track was okay but no great shakes. Has anyone been tempted?

The Meat Beat collaboration has also started to hit the streets. I think it works well. When I listen online it never sounds as good as on cd or vinyl. Dunno why. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised. I wonder if there’ll be a dance floor somewhere with people jigging to Merzbow.

The first track was okay but no great shakes. Has anyone been tempted? I've listened to the Gecko Raga album a few times now and I like it, nice variation across all the tracks. For VAT issue it's worth trying to contact labels/sellers directly to avoid the extra cost. I've ordered lots recently from other countries and never had any customs charges from UK customs (I've asked most people to put low customs value when not buying from Discogs or place that works out VAT on the site). Noticed some orders I've made from Germany on Discogs don't have VAT charge, but then some smaller ones do? Some rule has changed there but not for other EU countries.

Thanks for that. I needed a push. Yes, a good one. Lots going on. I can see why the blurb compares track 2 to the collage era. Overall, there’s probably something for everyone. Do you think this is the start of a series of digital only releases?

Do you think this is the start of a series of digital only releases? Maybe, after releasing over 100 Merzbow CDs they might have decided digital on bandcamp is a bit easier.

Many thanks for posting this, just reserved a copy. Artwork looks great. Looking at prices for past releases the cost will probably be high. So it's just 25 copies and not a normal version without print?

My guess is there will be more LPs than prints, which will be available separately, but I don’t know.

My guess is there will be more LPs than prints, which will be available separately, but I don’t know. I do not think so. Usually with Astres D'Or, there are only very limited edition of a release without any other print on regular format. These are lathe cuts with handmade covers. The price is set to 200 €.
