Just came here to post exactly the same thing - they look absolutely dreadful! Microsoft wordart? Apparently they come in silver foil digipaks so it'll be interesting to see what they look like in real life. I don't know how Menstrual keep getting it so wrong, I sort of lost faith in them after the frankly half-arsed treatment they gave the Pornoise re-release. Disappointing, although I'm not particularly surprised.
16.90 EUR each seems expensive and all

Yeah was quite surprised at the price. I will see if somewhere like Cold Spring will be getting distro copies but it's still going to be expensive.

Yeah, those CDs look awful! Thank god I have the original ‘Psychorazer’; I’d hate to have to buy this version, knowing how cool the original artwork is. I’ll get ‘Paradise Pachinko’ and the forthcoming CD reissue of ‘Pulse Demon’ too, even though I have that CD already. I’m curious about the bonus track and whether the remaster will make any difference to the sound (to my ears they never do). I don’t think the jump in the prices of these CDs is surprising, given the inflation, the state of the global economy and all that.

I have not seen these four recent Merzbow CDs released by Menstrualrecordings "in the flesh" yet, but I personally do like the artwork (black and silver) on them. I think it is pretty clear that the (simple) artwork on these releases is meant to pay homage to the famous Philips label Prospective 21e Siècle "Silver Series" of electronic music LPs that were released in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

I agree, but I think the execution of the idea is sadly rather poor. I hope I’ll like it better when I hold ‘Paradise Pachinko’ in my hands.

Was anyone here listening to Merzbow in the 80s?
Speaking for myself... yes.

Isn’t the term: Merzbow completist an oxymoron? As you started in the 80s you must be giving it a good go.

I’d be interested in reading about how you got into Merzbow back then, giantleech! On another note, I got ‘Paradise Pachinko’ today and am listening to it now. The shiny digipak looks a lot better than the pictures on the label’s website suggest, but I’m still not too happy with the text. Track 2 has just started and so far the album is very good! Quite different than his other stuff from 1990 and 1992, when this was recorded. It’s much less hectic and slower moving.
