Wikipedia now lists the following as forthcoming: Collection 001-010 from Urashima (10 CD box set)

It'll be good to finally get the Collection stuff all in one handy place - this is one of those eras where it's slightly frustrating due to the way it's dribbled out in the past. Thanks to the 3 CDs in Merzbox, individual CD and cassette releases from Menstrual Recordings and Blossoming Noise I've probably got most of this stuff already, but annoyingly not all of it. Looks like I'll be shelling out again!

Annoying as I just bought two cassettes of the reissues on Blossoming noise (I think that was the label) and I have the two CDs from menstrual recordings but yeah, I'm sure I'll get this version as the engraved boxes from Urashima are really beautiful.

200 more copies (this time on orange vinyl) of the 'Door Open at 8 AM' double LP will be pressed at the end of November. Preorders are up on Aurora Central Records' Bandcamp page. I'm afraid I'll never have this (or the tape version) as it's eye-wateringly expensive with shipping, but you can't have everything.
The 10CD 'Collection' box sounds good. I'll have to listen to the ones I already have though (the CDs in the 'Merzbox', two tapes on Blossoming Noise and an LP on Urashima) to see if I really need it. I might already have enough early Merzbow (that's the reason I haven't bought the 'Fuckexercise#2' CD either). That said, I recall 'Collection 009' being very good (and very weird).
Speaking of early Merzbow, I wouldn't mind having the obscure 'E-Study' tape, which was released in 2009. I wish I had a tape deck then, but since I didn't, I wasn't buying tapes and passed on buying it from the label (and later on Ebay). Since then, I don't think I've ever seen it for sale for a price I'd be willing to pay (on Discogs anyway; I no longer check Ebay).

I can see why they’re releasing an orange version of Door Open. When mine arrived I thought there had been a mistake so I re-checked the listing. I was wrong: it was black not orange vinyl. Oh well, some people will get orange ones, which will complete the package/presentation.
I listened to the vinyl through speakers then the remastered digital tracks on headphones, back to back - something I hadn’t done before. It was quite a different listening experience, so much so they sounded like different albums. I suppose the vinyl had a more powerful impact, while I heard more detail via headphones.
I thought the extra tracks didn’t add much. One has a strong rhythm, the other I’ve forgotten already. However, all in all, really nice to have on vinyl.

I also thought that Scandal was an excellent release. Will get Flare Blues too if it comes to a UK stockist. I emailed Room40 about the signed print but didn’t get a reply. Was anyone tempted?

Yeah really liked Scandal. All the Room 40 CDs I have are great. I can't find Noise Mass though, hard to get at a decent price. I was going to wait for Flare Blues but someone ordered a lot from me on discogs so I went for the hoodie/art print bundle.

Thanks for that - despite already owning a couple of the separate boxsets, I ended up buying the entire 60CD box anyway. It works out cheaper for me to sell the ones I;ve got and buy the lot in one hit. Incidentally, 'Flare Blues' on Room40 is out now. 'Project Frequency' re-issue is now available to order on Menstrual Recordings (limited to 200 copies, so I wouldn't hang around) www.menstrualrecordings.org/merzbow_project_frequency.html

I don't think this has been mentioned before (unless I've missed it), but Old Captain have re-issued 2016's 'Hanakisasage' in a limited 50 CD black and white cover edition with poster. Looks like there was an edition with a T-shirt as well, but that one's sold out. oldcaptain.bandcamp.com/album/merzbow-hanakisasage

Think I recall seeing that on Instagram or something a while ago, but forgot all about it. Seems expensive but I suppose it reflects the incredibly limited nature of it, I'd be surprised if anyone wanting a copy doesn't already own the original release since I don't think it's particularly sought after. Still got my shirt from the first time round in 2016 although its getting pretty threadbare!

Thanks for the news about Noisembryo. Can you get Hospital Productions products in the UK or do I have to ship from the US? Cheers.

The 15th Slowdown series is confirmed for January 2022, starting with Janus Guitar and Purple Fish. These albums focus on material recorded in 2014 and 2015 which utilise EMS synthesizers. We'll also be up to date with the 6CD box editions of the albums thus far.

Has anyone got 'Flare Blues' yet? I'm waiting for Soundohm to receive copies, but it strikes me as odd that even though it seems to have been released in October, it doesn't seem to be on sale anywhere except for Room40's Bandcamp page (at least that was the case when I did a search about a week ago). No one has marked it as owning it on Discogs either, which is also very unusual.

I pre-ordered it on the first days on Room40's Bandcamp page and since then I only received files. No record yet and I did not find any mention of the record anywhere else. Still waiting...

Am I right to think that the live track from Flare Gun side B isn’t included?

Am I right to think that the live track from Flare Gun side B isn’t included? Yes, just the first two tracks from that ep which are re-worked as well (not sure how different from original). The extra Flare gun track I'm not sure about though. Will wait till physical version arrives before I listen to it.

I got the reissue of ‘Project Frequency’ a couple days ago. I have the original LP, so normally I wouldn’t have bought the reissue, but this time I made an exception due to the unusual packaging — it just seemed exciting to have both versions. Not rational, but there you go 🙂. Anyway, the reissue looks very similar to the original release, except this time the mesh on the front is made of metal instead of plastic. As a result, since the mesh is a bit curved, so is the sleeve, and I assume this accounts for the warped record as well. My copy is seriously warped, but luckily this doesn’t cause any issues with playback (although perhaps with some turntables it would). The other issue I have with the packaging is more serious: the mesh is attached with staples at each corner of the sleeve, and sure enough, the record has some pretty ugly scratches in one area at the edge on one side as a result. Fortunately they aren’t as audible as I feared they would be, so they distract from the listening experience only minimally, but it’s a shame the packaging has the potential to damage the record. The label should’ve thought of this. As for the music, it was recorded in 1995, and while it isn’t outstanding like ‘Pulse Demon’ or ‘Dadarottenvator’, for example, it’s still a solid record from the golden era. It has some interesting EMS synth parts and a couple great loops, plus you can recognise parts that also ended up on ‘Pulse Demon’, minus the high-pitched, piercing sound of that album. And the short and bizarre intro and outro are great, of course. The album was remastered by Akita in 2019, and while I haven’t listened to both editions consecutively, I think they sound about the same. All in all, it’s an album that’s definitely worth getting. If you’re lucky, your copy won’t be (too) damaged by the packaging.

Thanks for that. Mesh wrapped around LP can definitely be a problem. I have an old Taint LP which has a similar problem, have to keep the vinyl separate from the cover. The staples on this release is a terrible idea though, that is just asking for the record to get scratched. There are other ways to attach it.

The label should’ve thought of this. I had same problem of scratches on the LP cause of the staple at the entrance of the cover (I took it off since then). I contacted the label to let them know. The only answer I received was I am the only person to send them feedback of problem like this one and they sent the record outside of the sleeve (that is wrong as I received the record inside of the sleeve). Please send them a report of the problem you encounter so I will not be alone. I do not have same wrap problem you have. Great album indeed!

I had the same problem with the 'Project Frequency' staples as you guys did, but not the warping. I am ashamed to admit that I did not immediately contact menstrualrecordings as I told myself I ought. That has since been corrected on fred's prompting. I just emailed them. I apologize for being so late.
I know it is no excuse, but I have been overwhelmed with problem music and movie releases lately, and I just threw my hands up in frustration! Thank you acsenger for making this issue public.
