Listening to Aodron now... I am curious to hear the sample from this later, though. That bizarre cover image has been seared into my brain for a while now. Makes me really want to hear the album.

I do like the sample. Is already in my wantlist. I am not so disturbed by the cover like others here... Do I have bad tastes ?

First thoughts of mine were that the cover was kinda cool actually... something a little different. Looking forward to hearing this one, the sample doesn't really sound like a game changer though. Could be in for a few surprises, but something tells me it wont be as strong an album as aodron.

Just had a dig around online for this as we've pretty much reached the initial release date. Seems the actual release for this is now on April 10th. The label also have a bandcamp page with a digital edition of the album.

Well, coming from someone with a Merzbuta avatar and a corny title like "venereologist", I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment on matters of taste. For what it's worth, though, I don't consider the cover "good" or "bad". Merely unusual/intriguing. It certainly piqued my interest in the album (which sounded good from the Soundcloud sample I listened to months ago). What more could you ask for in a cover? As long as it makes you curious, I don't think it needs to be objectively "good" or "bad". It can still be successful. Some of Merzbow's (to me) worst, cheesiest, cheapest, laziest, most atypical, dated, etc. covers stand out the most to me. And I often end up checking those albums out because of it.

Hey, Bucketfel, maybe would be great to open a topic about worst of all time Merzbow covers I am voting for Springsharp Maybe it wasn't a separate topic as such, but there's been talk about the ugliest Merzbow covers on this forum. I know cause I contributed, and I think andypandy380 did too; maybe others did as well. If you do a search, you should be able to find it. I definitely mentioned SCSI Duck and most likely the Zara 10" too, so these could be keywords for a search. I really like the cover of Springharp, by the way 😊. I like how it incorporates the Arnolfini Portrait. (As far as the music goes, however, I don't like Last of Analog Sessions at all.)

Oh boy.. dissing Last of Analog Sessions?! Come on... who are you guys? Springharp is one of the best Merzbow albums and Medamaya is top notch also. All covers are excellent (ok Medamaya is the cover that is least representative of the brutality of that extra harsh album, but all the better for it). SCSI Duck is a great album cover too, the 3 distorted versions of the duck perfectly capture the fuck-it/upfront digital aesthetic of the album through the lens of metonymy/distortion of an animal taken to its extremes. The album name is ridiculous, but also in the clever manner of some of his puns, albeit a bit silly. But it gives it all a cheeky angle = perfect combo of brutal, playful, idontcare etc

When I think of "bad" Merzbow covers, I mostly think of incredibly dated, late 90's Photoshop effects and dodgy computer typography used very overtly on album covers. I can think of a few examples from ~1997-2000. I actually dig SCSI Duck's art, as well as the album itself. I even like the name. I wonder if it's a pun in protest against e-waste/industrial pollution of wildlife habitats... I'm probably overthinking it immensely.

This looks cool, but I'm hoping this gets some kind of distribution - the postage charges from the label's bandcamp are horrendous.

Given this one a first listen on Bandcamp. Despite some initial doubts about the album, It's surprisingly a pretty solid and worthwhile listen. Quite impressive even... On the first side, Akita has thrown absolutely everything into a blender, constantly chopping and changing between sounds. It's pretty heavy on interesting loops that are rhythmic and occasionally (almost) musical to the point that you could nod your head to it. Plenty of synths too, nothing is given enough time to outstay it's welcome. The second track grew on me quickly too, starting with a combination of wall-to-wall droning noise and a heavy thudding beat, parts of it sound sound quite menacing, not in a loud harsh noise sort of way, but it really drills into your head nonetheless. The track gets more elabourate towards the end with some bizarre sounding electronic loops. I'm glad to say i quite liked this album on first handful of listens, what thoughts do others have?

Just noticed the weird etching on the vinyl runoff: "Darling wake up - I'm spitting blood!"
