This release seems to have been sprung on us without any warning, as it's out today. Nice bargain price of £8 as well!
"The King of Japanese Noise, Merzbow, was joined on stage by Hungarian drummer extraordinaire, Balázs Pándi (known for his work with The Sun Ra Arkestra, Bill Laswell, Justin Broadrick, Bong-Ra, Venetian Snares and more). The special event on 28th September 2016 took place under the roof of the legendary FAC251 building, where many of Manchester's musical elite set foot, being the original home of Factory Records HQ. The show features an exemplary performance of Masami Akita's trademark Japanoise, but the addition of Balázs Pándi's improv drumming gives the whole evening an almost musical, jazz feel. 44 minutes. Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold digisleeve."

Weird - I bought this a few days ago - on first listen I hated it. The drums are almost completely buried beneath a wall of non-stop noise that is very lacking in variety - the tone changes throughout, and towards the end we get some volume changes and high pitch squeals - but for the most part it's like standing under the shower and being enveloped in this constant, unrelenting wash of harsh noise.
There is no subtlety or dynamics here - just flat out noise and volume, and one of the harshest Merzbow releases I've heard. But now after listening it several times, I'm actually liking it for it's uncompromising intensity. Go figure!

i had similar first impressions too... to be honest ive not yet listened to it in its entirety but youre right, the drums are almost inaudible. I'll give it another shot, didnt exactly have high hopes of it being anything spectacular anyway, i'm not the biggest fan of the other merzbow/pandi live albums either, it has to be said, but it feels okay to take a chance on some of these more reasonably priced CD releases. I do wish i had managed to catch one of the shows while merzbow was here in the UK though, but it didnt work out.
