New release on Old Europa Café coming in September, split CD limited to 300 copies, pre-order available now.
"Milanese Bestiality / Drunk On Decay" came first out in 1997 as a vinyl-only release limited to 470 copies. This long time sold-out album is now re-released with the addition of 2 exclusive (one for each artist) unreleased tracks recorded in the same period.

I haven't heard the original split from 1997 - is it any good?

Yes, it's great. Merzbow's style is a mix of his EMS- and synth-heavy music of that period and the atmosphere of some of M.B.'s classic albums (like Mectpyo Bakterium or Menses), plus a drum machine (not in all of the tracks though, from memory). The Haters side is, from memory, not similar musically to M.B., but it's a good, solid Haters track. I'm glad this record is being re-released as my copy has some pops and crackles, plus the CD will have bonus tracks too.

I got this CD yesterday. I must say the packaging is almost shockingly ugly. I have no idea why they couldn't just replicate the original LP artwork which I think is great (even though I can't make out all the details of the Merzbow cover). Instead they created horrible new artwork... The notes (when tracks were recorded and equipment used) are gone too, only the track titles are listed (with a spelling mistake). No mention of the fact the tracks were remastered (which they were). The original Haters cover had a text which on the CD cover is rendered completely unreadable. In addition, for some strange reason the three Merzbow tracks from the original LP are one track instead of three. Luckily the music is good. The Merzbow tracks (at least the first three) convey some of the atmosphere of a couple early M.B. albums, and the bonus track is good too. Regarding the Haters, their bonus track is actually better than the original one. That said, there are better Haters tracks than these two, but they're solid nonetheless. All in all, a good release to have, but I honestly don't know what the label was thinking when it did the design...

not being familiar with the original lp, i must admit i didnt really notice some of the things you mention, although i did wonder why they opted for that new wishy-washy distorted blue cover rather than expanding upon the original. the music did strike me as being absolute top quality merzbow though, albeit slightly removed from the style of other albums from the same period. pretty happy that it got a cd re-release, might revisit it tonight.
