Spending money for records/CDs is never a bad idea. What I want to say is, that there are much worse possibilities to invest your money in, like smoking or collecting hats in Team Fortress 2.

I got all three for very good prices. The Consumer Electronics/Merzbow CD is a pretty good one after one listen; it's very dense, but not too harsh. It seems to be really a CE album with Merzbow guesting on EMS.

Some cool photos - here's my collection, not as impressive as some, but the Merzbox amounts for a big chunk of it!

I'd say that's very much an impressive collection! What's the CD to the left of Ouroboros?

Its '天鵞絨の鳥', the 14th album in the '13 Japanese Birds' series, limited to 200 copies in the 'Ecobag' version of this release (so I was pretty chuffed when I couldn't afford the initial box set price, then ended up getting a bonus CD by waiting for a year!)

Lovely collection. Timehunter and the special edition of Turmeric are nice rarities! What's the 'Respect Chicken' CD/box between Sphere and Dust of Dreams?

It's the limited edition (100 units) of 'Scene'/'Early Computer Works' - comes in a plastic box with a 'Boycott Kentucky Fried Chicken' poster. It's pretty cool, but you literally have to cut through the coloured tape holding the box closed to get the CDs out and play them! www.discogs.com/Merzbow-Early-Computer-Works-Scene/release/495186
Oh - also not pictured in my collection - I just discovered I have a copy of the Merzbow & Boris yellow & green 12" vinyl of 'Walrus/Groon', which I'd completely forgot about (this is what happens by filing it under 'B' for Boris instead of with the rest of my Merzbow stuff!). Not rare at all, but a thing of beauty, and it sounded a lot better when I played it than I remembered!

How is the Early Computer Works CD? I'd be curious to hear it, but it's pretty expensive. A lot of people say early laptop Merzbow is crap, but I think it's the opposite: I really like early computer/laptop albums like Tentacle, Collapse 12 Floors, Dharma, Amlux, Hard Lovin' Man... The only release from this period I think is bad is the Happenings 1000 Years Time Ago 7".

Just had a quick blast of 'Early Computer Works' to remind me, as I couldn't remember off hand. The only sign of it being 'primitive' I can see is that it seems to focus on following and manipulating one central stream of noise, rather than displaying on a thick band of competing 'multi-tracks' interweaving with each other - so it's more of a solo instrument than a full orchestra, but the focus gives it clarity, and the sound itself is nice, thick and very 'squelchy', with lots of variance. No sign of any loops or rhythms in the bit I just sampled - just freeflowing manipulation of noise.
So yeah - sounds pretty good - 'focused squelch' is my two word summing up!

I've often wondered about Early Computer Works too, from you description it sounds like an interesting listen. It's a bit odd how it was bundled together with Scene rather than being released a standalone album.

A little bit of shameless self-promotion here, but I started an Instagram account recently to talk about my CD collection and the music I like. Ended up laying all my Merzbow stuff out on the floor the other day for a photo. Have a look if you like ---> www.instagram.com/cdsandthings/

Nice collection! How’s that Wadge CD? It looks like one of their releases that has something to do with Tiki culture? I had a 10” by them, but ended up selling it. Still, I wonder if the Tiki culture references on their later releases also manifest themselves in their music, or only in the artwork and track titles? I envy you for having the New Blockaders’ ‘History of Nothing’ CD! I’d love to have it, but it goes for crazy prices (and the vinyl reissue lacks a number of tracks). Recently I listened to all my TNB releases and got really hooked on them. At their best, TNB are absolutely crushing. I’d say the ‘Gesamtnichtswerk’ 4CD box is mandatory for all noiseheads. I’m kicking myself for not buying the TNB/Vortex Campaign collab CD when it was released a couple years ago, cause now I can’t find it anywhere. Bloody hell, I can’t check out all of your pictures as Instagram is prompting me to sign up to be able to scroll down further… How annoying!

Cheers! I like that Wadge CD a lot, it's the only album I have of theirs and it's quite a lengthy jumble of different stuff, mostly in a similar vein to early Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Other than it starting out with a bit of a daft surf rock passage there's not a whole lot of tiki theme to it. Maybe that's something they elaborated on with other albums. I didn't realise that Blockaders CD was especially sought after, I think it's one I picked up on Ebay some time ago. I still feel like I've got a lot to discover with those guys, quite a few albums on my wishlist, have heard good things about that box set but yet to track it down.
That is annoying, instagram and social media in general is full of things like that. To be honest I'm not sold on instagram as a format, basically everything is turning into TikTok whereby it seems compelled to cram smut and narcissism down my throat whether I like it or not.
