What do you think about the new track (Rumination) posted on the Merzbow website? I like the rhythmic base of the song but the electric guitar playing is not my cup of tea at all. I personally really hate this kind of guitar playing. Bad luck for me, I guess, since it ruins an otherwise great track for me...

When I first saw the video on youtube, I honestly thought it was someone taking the piss... (don't eat goats, love them?) everything about it just looked like a parody... and then it appeared on the Merzbow homepage and I have no idea what to think. doesn't even sound like a Merzbow track... I don't know if this is part of the 3 disc Animal rights set that was mentioned in a recent interview, I'm still intrigued to see what that's all about, it's all very confusing.

well, the youtube account says munemi house and all. I thought it was Merzbow right from the start. As for the content, we dont get to hear many traditional, structured, and mainstream music within Merzbow tracks (some albums and tracks being the obvious challenge to this, hoewever, in the large scope of his discography is nothing much but a gran of salt)
I liked it.

Well, in my opinion, it is too rhythmic. In general, i don't like it when merzbow use too much repetetive elements. That's why i also hate Merzbuddha and all this works which go in this direction (merzbient).

Have you heard Merzbient in its entirety? I listened to the whole box the other week and sure, there were rhythmic elements but I didn't think it was anywhere near Merzbuddha or Merzbuta or similar releases in terms of being rhythmic. It just had the occasional rhythm like a lot of other Merzbow releases.

Hello acsenger, I must say, i don't own merzbient. Some months ago, I have just listend to some samples on the internet. Maybe I had accidently picked up the wrong tracks, so my opinion was manifasted too early. But you are right, i cant't judge this work, because i don't know the whole thing.

It's worth listening to Merzbient if you have the chance. It's material from 1987-1990 and is therefore analogue. It's also mellower than a lot of his stuff, although I don't know how it compares in terms of harshness to other Merzbow music from that period (I'd have to dig into the Merzbox and the other CDs I have from that era, but sadly I don't have the time now). There's a lot of reverb used and thus you get a feeling of a lot more space than usually with Merzbow. Sometimes it sounds he's playing huge metal structures (which is actually true, if not the "huge" part).
