Hi guys, start gearing up for Merzreleases. I just found out that the label Urashima (who reissued the old Kibbutz tape on vinyl last year) is reissuing another old but good tape. Collection 09, part of the 10-part collection series has been remastered and pressed in black vinyl with black label and black inner sleeve and comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on black cardboard sleeve, limited to 199 copies w/insert in luxury 160 gr ivory paper. Collection 009Side A N.A.M. 4 + E-8 [06:13] Telecom 1/3 + N.A.M. 5 [17:37] Side B E 3-1-1 [11:30] E 3-1-2 [01:50] Concrete Tape [07:05] On their site costs arround 17 euros and i also noticed that the label Solielmoon (from Merzbient fame) has the release at 25 dollars. Are you exited for the release? do you like the old material? do you hope to see the rest of the Collection series reissued once again? (i mean, this is the third in the series to be reissued. Only 7 more) www.urashima.it/uma052.htmlsoleilmoon.com/store/searchresults.lasso?TitleName=collection&ArtistName=merzbow

I noticed this too, they posted it on facebook. I'm still almost completely unfamiliar with the 80's Merzbow, if they were to re-release these on CD rather than vinyl i'd buy them in an instant...

Im happy that he's reissuing the oldest material. After all, there is no possible way we can either obtain the originals because of price and availability.
I am also happy that this was another boxset with all the collection tapes, although it would be quite awesome honestly, i think hes flooded the boxset market for a little bit after the massive overflow of sets last year. I wished though that he could look at the wikipedia page with his discography and see if something is missing and just release a tape that we've never even heard of from that time. That would be quite epic in my oppinion

I think it's great that he's doing boxsets and reissues of old work, but I look forward to seeing another 1 CD release from him, honestly. Something short and sweet (for Merzbow of course); it seems like it's been a while since he's consistently released standalone CD albums.

I'd second that 100%, Loplop and Kibako were pretty solid releases but honestly I do like the simplicity of having a CD in a digipak. A standard CD release can still be a nice artifact, and I do find all the little 'bits and pieces' and bonus content a little off putting. We still have the two live CDs and Takahe Collage coming in the near future. I was wondering the other day if there will be any more additions to the Important Records series... and whether we have already heard what was initially going to be 'Goloka'... ?

I'd be interested in hearing from them for sure Would be cool if the trilogy was completed one way or another. I saw your posts on twitter about 13 Japanese Birds, sort of prompted me to listen to a couple of the volumes again, 11 and 12 have some cool moments, I've had a bit of a soft spot for 7 for some reason more than some of the others. I noticed the picture on the CD spines all connects up properly on your copies, mine is all over the place and looks horrible, I was a bit disappointed with the 13 birds in a bag thing tbh. A Japanese fish series sounds like pretty neat idea

You know, properly digesting it and such. And i just pieced the puzzle together with the spines, just like a jigsaw puzzle but on my CD rack they look pretty spaced appart from one another and is looks kinf of streched, but thats fine for now i guess.

Further to the talk about 13 Japanese birds, Did you notice Cold Spring announcing they had the set in stock... for £130!! more than 3 times the Important records price, plus important records throws in a t-shirt.

Listened to Collection 009 yesterday and liked it very much. It's from 1981 and, needless to say, very different from what became his style after 1990 that he became famous for. It's more like an acoustic/electronic "environment" instead of something harsh that imposes itself on the listener. It sounds like a lot of it is taped material along with improvised sounds on the violin and non-musical instruments. It's not hectic improvisation though, the music is constantly flowing. There are samples of other music too, piano and opera singing namely. It's great listening in my opinion. Again, very different from his harsh noise style, so if anyone is unfamiliar with his 80s stuff, this is a good place to start. The downside though is the shipping cost for the LP, I guess.
