Hey what's up folks. First post, new guy, merzbow appreciator, etc.
Anyway I found the name of an upcoming merzbow release. Takahe Collage CD on the handmade birds label. I saw this in an email update. No other info was provided.

Just had a quick dig around their website and Facebook... It's due in April. And they say "listening to Merzbow masters...this is definitely a reinvention of his sound...the most exciting work from him to date...feels weird to say due to the prolific nature, but its true...excited for this one." I'm excited too Seems they're also releasing a new ramleh album in the summer which is very good news indeed

Sounds good. They are a great label, so I am kind of expecting this to be special.

Preorder area available now on their website.
The album is limited to 500 and oddly enough comes in a DVD case it seems. Why so much space?

Had me wondering what they were gonna do with it. I assume a DVDigipak is one of those massive plastic trays with a card front... I dunno if anyone owns a copy of Burzum's 'Filosofem'? It's bigger than a DVD case. I guess they wanted to make the most of that artwork

I used to have it and then sold it to a friend. Now I regret it, although I have the normal digipak version, so it's OK. It's a great album.

Haven't really formed a solid opinion on this release yet, my copy arrived today. It's good, but in all honesty, to me it sounds like an extension of the LopLop/Kibako thing, enjoyable moments in it for sure, but it's not really backing up this 'reinvention of his sound' that i keep on reading. I think it's an album I'll appreciate after more listens, it's not quite hit me in the face the first few times around.

I agree - it's been marketed too hard by a label that clearly hasn't heard many Merzbow albums! This isn't his best, nor is it a reinvention of his sound. Pulsation is nothing new in Merzbow, obviously!! Track 1 has some beautiful synth work and a satisfying sense of large form. Track 2 didn't exceed what track 1 began with and Track 3 has nothing too special going on. The 3-track format with a shorter pulsating final track recalls for me albums like FID, Higanabana and Here. In the case of FID, there are more varied approaches on that album. In the case of Higanbana, track 1 is an incredible track. In the case of Here, track 2 is a great track. In the case of Takahe? Hmmm... I will listen a few more times before posting again. BUT, it's great to have a new single disc Merzbow album - hooray!!
