Kinda got my hopes up, but was probably silly of me to think Akita would actually say something... anything at all, haha, oh well. Interesting to hear what Pandi has to say though, especially the Autechre reference, cos they're a bit of a personal fave of mine. Who's the band Akita's playing with in the 'track 2' video? Scion AV seem to be getting around a bit eh?

Masami is a very quiet guy, this comes as no surprise. Interesting footage of him therefore. Not so much interest in what Balazs is saying, aside from stating the obvious.
I'm honestly not so sure about his collaboration with Balazs Pandi.... I am yet to be riveted by anything I've heard from the two of them playing together. Feel free to point me in the right direction anyone (though I obviously say that with scepticism). Balazs is clearly having a ball and perhaps the whole thing makes sense in relation to Merzbow as an extension of his drum-recordings era, but it doesn't add anything of real interest, it seems like a young drummer is lucky enough to be having fun with his hero. I'm not sure what Masami sees in it of real value.... (aside from Balazs doing a good imitation of Arijigoku/Anicca era drumming) though in his quest to release as much music as possible, it's justifiable if it leads to label interest, releases, concerts, live recordings, the ability to travel/tour and get paid etc.
Finally, Merzbow - Track 2 (Scion AV) on youtube is frankly embarrassing as far as Merzbow is concerned. Everything from the sound of the video to the comment about the video from ScionAV, the need for 2 drummers doing, wowww, crotchets on the floor tom...... and don't get me started on the guitarist... :s

i think Live At Fluc Wanne; Vienna; 2010-05-18 (Vinyl) (Limited) (With Balázs Pándi) is an excellent album.
also i don't hear balazs as doing an imitation of masami's style. the two sound completely different to me. i prefer masami's style though.

ok, i'll agree they are different styles and masami's is my preferred one. pandi sounds like a lazy cross between metal and free jazz/loud-free-improv without having mastered either.

I'm hoping Cuts will be the album that gets me into the Merzbow/Pandi project a bit more, what I've heard of that has got me more interested in the idea of it more than previous ones. I'm not sure if that's more because of Gustafsson's input though. (That initial "MERZBOW WITH A SAXOPHONE!?") I think by all means Pandi is a talented drummer, I remember him playing on a Venetian Snares track doing live breakbeat stuff which is very good indeed, and that's the area where he has excelled in the past. The Grindcore project will be the one to look out for I think, will be interesting to see if he really stands out and makes his own stamp on it.

Hah, I love this! I'm not crazy about the work with drumming, but, as a drummer, I think it's interesting to watch how the drummer works with Merzbow. Honestly, it only seems fitting that Masami would sit stoically to the side during the interview. Even when he signed my concert poster, which he seemed somewhat reluctant to do, all I got was a affirming mumble when I told him I loved his work.

I agree, this supposed Grindcore project is a great idea and I hope it goes ahead.... and therefore obviously I hope it delivers on its promise!! (i.e. don't go there unless you know what you're getting involved with, in some ways. There's a tradition to Grindcore, there's a tradition (and aesthetic) to Merzbow engaging in extreme heavy metal and those releases are up there as the most brutal and mind melting Merzbow releases.... for something to pop up years later with the catchy tag of Merzgrind and present something that doesn't rise to the challenge........ I'm just being the idealist and hoping for the best )

I'm hoping it really is going to be absolutely and completely brutal, harsh and insane in every way imaginable. That said, I'm having a hard time imagining exactly what it might sound like, but only time will tell. There's a sort of uneasy feeling in my stomach that hopes it doesn't get passed off as a sort of gimmick... like if anyone's familiar with the band 'Parts & Labor', i remember them doing an album with 50 or so 10 second long pop/grindcore crossover things? I guess i'm just trying to say I think there's gonna be a fine line between it being amazing or being a bit of a letdown given the hype that'll undoubtedly surround it upon its release. fingers crossed though eh
