the opening of this live album reminds me of nirvana's 1993/1994 tour opening with 'radio friendly unit shifter'. the noises masami akita and kurt cobain conjur with their respective instruments are eerily similar. i think kurt cobain would enjoy this record immensely and consider going noise rock after hearing it.
does anyone else think that the fast changing computer sample sounds that appear typically in the build up sections before total noise obliteration are reminiscent of a child turning tv stations very fast and his attention being totally immersed in the constant changing of content and immediate recognition of each new appearance?
what is he going for with that? it's like i can sense it but not say what it is. these are live noise symphonies, they are not playing unaware of each other, they play off of each other, to each other, merging back and forth. the channel changing thing is almost like trying to scramble the mind and disrupt its patterns. then he starts settling into a more steady reconigxzable 'channel'. when balazs totally stops it is eerie, leaving merzbow's chaos solo alone. when merzbow disappears leaving balazs and then reappears, it is ominous, feeling the merzbow creep back in, knowing he's about to take over with ferocious merztar sound. when they both merge together in an intense groove, it is hurricane rock and roll. it is the kind of music to play during natural disasters.
