Rustblade (who released Lop lop a year ago) announced a new Merzbow album called "Kibako". The album consists of 2CDs and will be released on December 10. So far there are two versions available for preorder, the first is a limited run of 299 copies which includes the 2 CDs plus some goodies and another ultra limited version that has a very fancy wooden box and has an extra CD. What im missing here and i think ill ask them if there will be a normal version of the album which is not like the 299 copies version. Sort of like the lop lop on regular version. Aside from that, the label also posted a very raw preview on youtube. 2 things stand out for me, the letters which spell Merzbow are amazing and also the cinematography or maybe how the video was recorded, its so clear and raw that i just love it. Ive watched it at least 7 times... in a row. Here are the links to the preorders For the Limited edition of 299 copies: www.rustblade.com/2012/kibako/For the Deluxe Edition of 199 copies: www.rustblade.com/2012/kibako-deluxe-limited-wooden-box/

Heh, I'm beginning to notice a pattern in Rustblade's Merzbow releases. I'm too broke to buy the Deluxe version. I miiiight buy the cheaper one, but I'm really not certain that I should. Also, I wonder what the "gadgets" are. If anyone gets this, especially, the deluxe version, they should post pics!

Check the track listing. I wonder if Operation Musashi is the same as the one on soundcloud

im glad there's an actual merzbow album on the way this year does seem incredibly pricey though, id almost be more happy with just a standard digipak release, it would still collectible and honestly i dont really think throwing in postcards and little bits and pieces makes it all that more appealing. but maybe thats just me

that looks like a pretty cool release really like that trailer, would be nice to have that wooden box set version, for the $$ and for what you get i'm liking the youth inc way of doing merzbow releases, 10cds for a bit over $100 bucks great quality and a great listening experience

I pre-ordered the wooden box version, so I'll take some photos assuming the world hasn't ended yet (post out of Italy can be slow of course...though I don't remember how long Lop Lop took to arrive) The Lop Lop one came with a very nice t-shirt, which actually fits (most music-based shirts seem not to fit very well for some reason) and a cool plastic cube thing. And a metal badge that I don't actually know the purpose of. (if it was any other artist though, I wouldn't bother with such ostentatious editions) As for the important bit... the Youtube clip sounds promising. It seems like he's going to come around full-circle back to the 80's Merzbow sound, doesn't it? Except with better technology and production and so on. Sounds like it could be put in a movie soundtrack, or something that non-merzbow/noise fans would be comfortable listening to. p.s. what is the meaning of "Kibako", anyone know this? It seems that it could just mean "wooden box", but i'm not sure.

I now regret not buying the 2CD version but at the time i didnt had the money. As for Kibako, im not sure about the name really and all i hope is that the wood in the video was used to make one of the boxes ;D

I have the 2CD deluxe version of Lop Lop myself, and like it. Got the shirt separately, they had some extras, and yeah, I love the Lop Lop shirt.

Full of surprises this one, I half expected it to be a LopLop part 2 or something. I'm still working my way through it, but there's some fantastic moments throughout where I've stopped and thought 'holy shit whats that?' almost definitely some violins and other 'actual' musical instruments being tortured... and erratic plucking and hitting things, some of it sounds very natural which is cool, I cant get enough of that synth sound that pops in and out, i dunno exactly what it is but i love it. There are a few tracks here though that, dare I say it, feel a little boring... the first track in particular doesn't do a lot for me... 'Kikoezi Mori (0303)' is an instant favourite, Imagine finding yourself stuck in the middle of a tropical jungle full of insects at 3 in the morning in a thunderstorm... that's what it sounds like

I'm listening to this for the first time and holy fuck it is good. All of Akita's 33 or so years of crafting noise can be heard in this. I don't like throwing the word "masterpiece" around, but this is such amazingly realized work, I think. Kikoezu Mori (0303), which is the one I'm currently on, is just fantastic. I'm just about enraptured here. Like, it's totally put me in another world.

Yeah man, I felt the same about that track, it was instantaneous, as soon as it started I knew it just sounded 'right'. I got a similar thing from kamadhenu pt 1 and 'my voice drifting...' from loplop, but this one is on a whole new level. I'm still undecided about some of the other tracks, but I'm sure it'll all begin to make sense as I listen through some more.

Yeah, the last half of the album got weaker in my opinion, but the first half was amazing. You could just see so many elements of his previous works used to put together an interesting composition.
