Yes people, as you heard it (or read it ), i just found out that Merzbow is releasing a new album on a label called Samboy Get Help. The album is currently untitled and information is almost non-existent but i already mailed the dudes from the label and maybe we can get some golden nuggets of information to get exited. One thing that we do know is that its going to be on Vinyl ;D ;D If you are a vinyl lover you might be interested in this. You dont believe me?, here is the site: www.samboygethelp.co.nz/#!artists EDIT: The label just replied my mail, here is what they said: Anyone exited? EDIT: I just found out that there is already a cover in place on their shop section. So i mailed the good dudes at the label and got a fast reply: EDIT: Well, Samboy released all info today. The album preorders start on April 30 and the album gets released on May 30. It consists of 300 copies of vinyl in case anyone is interested. If not maybe the fact that Merzbow is using a bowed 13 string Koto on the album might change your mind.

News from this album from the man himself. A sample from this 12' release is up and running on his soundcloud page: snd.sc/zEoZvHI went to check the site and saw that the cover that is shown on the sample in soundcloud is the cover of the album. Check the Samboy Get Help for the cover. I havent been able to see much information

300 copies in Vinyl that are going to be released on May 30 with preorders starting a month prior.
This part has me very exited.
I dont think we have ever heard Merzbow's take on a Koto instrument before, have we?

preorders have been open for 10 days more or less and they sent me a mail telling me that one third of all copies (100 out of 300) have already been sold up.
I though you all might want to know if you are on the fence about buying this one.

The guys from Samboy Get Help mailed me today to let you all know that there were problems at the vinyl pressing plant and that they cannot release the album on time. They pushed it back to mid June.
I mailed back asking if the downloadable version will be released on May 30th or not so ill keep you posted with their response

Any word on this one coming out? I'm pretty interested.
The cover is nice too, I'd like to know where that picture was taken.

for anyone considering buying, one new zealand dollar is very far off one australian dollar / usa dollar kind of like yen or singapore dollars anyway, this album has awesome cover art, and i might pick it up just for the pleasure of owning it on a big record sleeve

I just received this in the mail the other day from the label. I bought it on Discogs and they are selling another copy so I don't think it is completely sold out yet. Anyways this is a solid, standout release that I am glad to have as my first Merzbow album on the vinyl format. Photographs on the front and back cover make this a nice looking album. The inner sleeve is printed with drawings and notes(in japanese) from the water purification plant in the cover photo.

I went back and gave this album a listen after seeing your post ascenger. Overall I would give this one two thumbs up. It is a very good use of the 12" vinyl format. Both pieces fill each side. Side one is built upon a steady synth pulse with layers of drone, subtle noise(relatively speaking) and the Koto stringed instrument. I'm still not sure if the Koto is sampled or played and manipulated live on this side. Some sections give off a live string improv vibe others are obviously looped samples. Overall a very layered almost 70's electronic vibe that unfolds steadily and deliberately. Side two is definitely the harsher of the two sides. This one starts off with a steady synth pulse that is overlaid with harsh synth improv, unrecognizable sample(koto?) manipulation. The pulse eventually disappears to be replaced by abstract noise rhythms that are wound up with feedback/sample sculpting. Merzbow still keeps the piece somewhat linear and the layering and variation of sounds keep things interesting over the length of this side. To me the sampled instrument and structuring of this work make it a worthwhile purchase. If you like listening to vinyl it will be worth your time and cash. Either side stands on its own or can be listened to whole.

Thanks for the review, I'm tempted to buy it. I'm now considering if I'm willing to pay as much for it as I can get it for (which ain't cheap)...
