Has anyone given this a listen? Ended up downloading it... Not entirely sure who Gareth Davis is... but from what I understand he provides source material from reed instruments that were manipulated by Akita and used as a basis for this album. The first track is pretty standard Merzbow in all truth, loud, abrasive... The second has rather a lot more personality and is well worthy of a listen, what I assume is the manipulated wind instruments casts quite an unsettling sort of howl/drone over the whole thing... it's unlike anything I've heard in a Merzbow record and it sounds killer!

I've listened to this a couple times and I also like it. Track 1 is the more usual kind of Merzbow indeed, but it's good stuff nevertheless. I really love the sound in track 2 (I think it repeats up to about half of the track) that sounds like a short snippet of fast forwarding a tape (I could be totally wrong about what it actually sounds like). This track is also more airy than the first one. A very good record.

I did enjoy this, though I think I preferred the A-Side - the end of that track is pretty trippy. If I have a slight quibble it's that I was hoping that the clarinets would be slightly more obvious in the mix, though they are so distorted and processed they are not noticeably different to Merzbow's usual squealing feedback and source electronics. If I didn't know this was a collaboration, and someone played it to me blind, I think I'd just presume it was a standard solo Merzbow release. So - good stuff, but not particularly unique.
