coldspring.co.uk/discography/csr218cd/#.VsTgW_A8arUOver an hour of best analogue material from the King of Japanese noise. Reissue of an extremely rare cassette, dating back to 1985, originally released by Merzbow’s own label ZSF Produkt, and in France by Le Syndicat. All tracks made for “Nil-Vagina Mail-Action February 85″. Recorded at Merz-bau Studio, and not ‘live’ as the title would suggest. All material taken from the original master tapes and remastered for 2016.

I agree, and I hope there's more coming. I loved the sample, so I'm very much looking forward to this CD.

This is the way to do it... Re-releases of rare/hard to find material one reasonably priced CD at a time. I love it Fingers crossed for more

I don't know where else to post this... but since we're on the subject of reissues... Merzbow Null released like 16 live cassette albums in 1983-1984, as far as I know Deus Irae is the only one to have had any sort of re-release (please correct me if I'm wrong)... but surely that lot is one hell of an awesome CD box-set waiting to happen? I can only dream...

I also don't know of any other reissues. A CD box set would indeed be most welcome! Merzbow and Null have one cassette with Nord. Some of Nord's material has been reissued (on vinyl) over the last 8 years by a bootleg label and another release is in the works. I'm secretly hoping (if the above mentioned CD box set doesn't materialise) they'll re-release the Merzbow/Null/Nord tape too, but it seems they're only reissuing Nord releases on one of the members' label, and this tape was released by ZSF Produkt, so I don't know if it's gonna happen.

My copy of 'Life Performance' finally arrived in the post today. Only heard it once so far, but initial impressions are that - whilst it's not a *great* Merzbow album - it's certainly a good, solid release. Hopefully sales will be good enough that Cold Spring will consider re-issuing more totally impossible to get hold of early cassette tapes on CD format.

whilst it's not a *great* Merzbow album - it's certainly a good, solid release. I agree. I got my copy yesterday and have listened to it twice. From memory, Pornoise was very much in the same vein (I'll soon listen to it again as I'm going through the Merzbox slowly). Loops form the basis of the tracks and sometimes there's quite a lot going on on top, sometimes not a lot. It's crushing industrial noise with great parts and at times less exciting parts too, but overall it's a release well worth having. It's interesting how varied Merzbow was in the '80s: just a few years before this harsh loop era in 1984-85, there were the Collection releases, then in 1985-86, so almost at the same time, there was Batztoutai and Antimonument -- all very different in style (and from memory Storage from 1988 was again different). And this is just mentioning a few releases.
