I'm curious to know what your favourite Merzbow albums are, so I can listen to them, and get a taste of the best of Merzbow.

It's hard for me to pick one. I've heard so many...
I'd say somewhere between 24 Hours - A Day of Seals and Aqua Necromancer. Merzbeat is quite good, and probably one of his more accessible albums.

Maybe it will sound unoriginal, but I like early 90's Merzbow releases the most. My favourites are Venereology and Flare Gun, hehe. I think these albums are an example of "fascinating" noise, I dare to say. It doesn't spins over one loop, like in some modern Merzbow albums, it changes every second. However that doesn't mean I don't like all modern era albums. I like Cycle, Dharma, Don't Steal My Goat very much.

Well, my favorite Merzbow album is probably: Uzura: 13 Japanese Birds Pt. 5, Chabo: 13 Japanese Birds Pt. 13, Jigokuhen, Bariken, Animal Magnetism and 1930

Yeah, I'd say Turmeric, 1930, Bariken, and Amlux are all in my top 20. Also, Bariken, if I'm correct, you're new here. Welcome to the forum! It's small now, but we're hoping to get a bit of a crowd going yet.

Speaking of my top 20, after some listening, I've gotten it established now. It's something like this:
24 Hours - A Day of Seals (My personal all-time favorite) 1930 Agni Hotra (This one is shaky and is definitely 20, if that. I just love Kunyan and Untitled Waves) Amlux Animal Magnetism Aqua Necromancer Bariken Door Opens at 8 Am Dying Mapa Tapes 1-2 Merzbeat Merzbuddha Merzzow (Inside Looking Out 1&2 are great) Nil Vagina Tape Loops Pornoise Extra Pornoise 1KG vol.1 Pulse Demon Tamago Tauromachine Timehunter Turmeric
2002, for me, was a good year for Merzbow. Four of my favorites are from that year, and several others from around then.

In addition to your Merzbow reviews being interesting reads, Bariken, I also saw that you reviewed Exploded Drawing by Polvo. I love Polvo, and Exploded Drawing is a great album.

I'm really surprised more people haven't heard of them. I get too many "huh?" reactions when I mention them.

Also, I listened to Sha Mo 3000 a few days ago, and I love it. It's definitely in my top 20 now, pushing Agni Hotra to 21. I also like the 9888a tape reissue more than Pornoise Extra.

Sha Mo 3000 was a tip I received form a reader of ducksbattlesatan. It is ceratinly one of the most unheralded Merzbow records of teh last few years. I also reckon Senimada is great. Actually everything he released on Blossoming Noise is absolutely indispensable.

sadly, Blossoming noise hasnt released the rest of microkosmos.
I dont like that kind of thing XD.
Also, i found your review site and also what i think is your twitter. I enjoyed reading the reviews

why no one spoke anything about Puroland.
I heard the first track on Itunes sampler and i liked it.

Ahh, thanks for reminding me about Puroland. I've never given it a proper listen until now. I love it--very much 24 Hours-era material. One of my favorites now.
Senmaida is one of my favorites now too. I think I'm going to change my top 20 into a top 50 and compile a Merztorrent of them, perhaps.

As a whole album Puroland is a million times better than Merzbeat.
Still Forgotten Land is Merzbow's greatest track for me and close second is Pilgrimage To Puroland.
Also, i iwsh more albums were on youtube, itunes and such. that way i hear the previews or full songs before i download them and subsequently buy the albums. Thats how i liked Merzbeat (through yearing forgotten land on youtube) and Puroland (through itunes samples).

out of the ones i've heard, i really like Frog+, that kinda blew me away Amlux, Kamadhenu and animal magnetism are all pretty good i guess i also have the 13 birds in a bag, theres some great stuff on there although the majority of the tracks with frantic jazz improv drumming dont do a huge amount for me, its the other tracks along th way that really stick out

some of my favorite albums include (in no particular order): - Space Mix Travelling Band - Tumeric (box set) - Rhiozome [ it has a unique sound, but i like it alot because i was actually in the audience during the concert when it was recorded ] - Metalvelodrome (box set) - Mercurated - Last of Analog Sessions (box set) - Hole - A Perfect Pain - Artificial Invagination - Music For Bondage Performance 1 & 2 - Orested - Neo Orgasm ..the list could go on and on of coarse.. but those are some that stick out in mind
