Hey guys I'm new to this forum but I've been listening to merzbow for a while and familiar with most of the different eras and styles..does anyone have any suggestions about any album of his that sounds like age of 369/chant 2?? Some of it is really dreamy but also very dense..I like the awkward tape loops and looped screaming stuff that appears the through this release but I haven't found anything similar ..pornoise and nil vagina loops are similar but not at all as dynamic or awesome

Its been a while since I last listened to it, the only ones that spring to mind right away might be 'batztoutai with material gadgets' and perhaps 'mechanization takes command' not that im hugely familiar with the 80s work myself, there are probably better comparisons than that

I'd suggest Solonoise and Escape Mask vinyls from the Lowest Music & Arts 1980 - 1983 boxset. Not as dense or loop-driven in particular, but they're great too.

Thanks guys..I'm going to get that lowest arts vinyl comp at some point.. Is the solonoise tracks on the vinyl box set. The same as the merzbox one?ive heard the merzbox one again yesterday and one of the tracks has similarity to the age 369/chant 2..I'm guessing not the early banging on things stuff but the era from 1983 to 1986 might be the go...

I don't understand why there's such an overlap between the Merzbox and the Lowest Music & Arts 1980-1983 box set. I can think of two reasons: one is that Akita couldn't find any other early material worthy of re-releasing; but this is kind of hard to believe when he's always been so prolific (and come to think of it, somewhere I've read he said he had another 50 CDs worth of early material). The other is that those who can't afford the Merzbox should have the chance to hear some of it if they buy the more affordable vinyl box. Either way, I think there should be no overlap at all... Since I have the Merzbox, I can't justify shelling out a not inconsiderable amount to buy a 10 LP box of which maybe 5 LPs would be new for me...
By the way, does anyone have Lowest Music & Arts 1980-1983?

I consider the idea of Lowest Music & Arts boxset being that to re-release the material from that label from years 1980-1983, and so it would be impossible to avoid re-releasing these discs. It would be definitely strange is Mr. Akita would instead say in the liner notes to acquire Merzbox for some discs Then, as I can see, in the boxset the tracks are named and positioned as they were released initially (excluding the mastering) whereas the Merzbox ones are separated and probably edited. That is my point.
