I'm surprised this hasn't seen the light of day yet... pre-orders started before Christmas, I asked Placenta Recordings whether they had any gossip about it and was told that it will be shipped out this month which I guess is cool. There doesn't seem to be a lot of hype surrounding this one, is anyone thinking of grabbing a copy?

It's embarrassing that it has taken that long to be released. I'm listening to Ouroboros now, which was recorded in the same month December 2009. That was over 3 years ago. Samidara includes drum recordings, so it is from the tail end of that phase. If the material on it is closer to Ouroboros then I have reason to be excited; if it is closer to the drum releases prior to it, then I'm less interested.

I would if the postage prices hadn't increased recently in the US, thereby making the rates to Australia insane. Even for the tape version I'd have to pay $20 including postage. But if I read raving reviews about it later on and it hasn't sold out, I might order the tape version.
EDIT: I see the postage rates were announced by the label before the rate rise. Either way, they're too much for me.

Paid for this in December, It's now June... not really sure what's happened. Last I heard it was all ready to be dispatched in March. I take it no-one here actually has a copy? or has any gossip on the release?

Apparently this is out now and preorders have shipped. Has anyone received it yet? If so, please let us know your opinion about it; I'm thinking about ordering it but am on the fence due to the international shipping costs.

Not received mine as yet, I assume UK Customs has it sitting in a warehouse somewhere, that's generally what happens whenever I order something bigger/more valuable than a CD from abroad... Has the cassette been released as well? I've not seen any pictures and all the announcements seem to be regarding the LP

The label's website gives the impression both formats are out, or at least it doesn't say the cassette isn't. There's no picture of it though, only of the LP.

Merzbow posted all the album on his soundcloud page in case you are not sure if you want to buy the album. You can listen to it's entirety online and then decide to support the artist.
Link to his soundcloud page is at the top on the banner

Thanks for the tip. I've listened to it this morning on Soundcloud and I quite liked it, although the loop in the first track got boring after a while. I think the second track's beat is taken from Merzbuta. All in all, I liked the constantly flowing, distorted nature of this album, although overall it could be better. If shipping was cheaper, I'd buy a physical copy.

I quite liked it too. Wasn't sure at first but I began to like it a lot the more I heard of it. Cold spring are selling them. Shipping is free in the uk. I dont know if their international shipping cost would be any more reasonable. Im almost thinking of demanding a refund from placenta recordings and getting one from there... would be drastically cheaper and it'll be on my doorstep monday morning.

my copy from placenta recordings never arrived. wrote many emails and stopped. couldn't hear another "it's coming" or talk of "paranoid pre-order customers".

"my copy from placenta recordings never arrived. wrote many emails and stopped. couldn't hear another "it's coming" or talk of "paranoid pre-order customers"."
That was the same for me with Graft 2 vinyls by Cold Spring and 13 Japanese Birds Box by Important Records, both was been paid, Bird Box was been hurt really, you can imagine.

I think Placenta Recordings has pissed off rather too many people with this release. Cold Spring put on Facebook that they were expecting their distro copies to be delivered back in January... Having not even shipped them 3 months after the release date and almost a year since the preorder is pretty inexcusable despite how busy he might be with countless projects he's undertaking at once. The 'Gman' cassette from Midnight Sea was similar in that it was left more than a month before they got round to shipping them. why? I've had some mixed experiences with other labels. Cold spring on the whole has been ok, they've been known to ship CDs the moment they get them from the press, prior to the release date, which is good for us fans. I did have some trouble with vinyl from them that wasn't pressed correctly and skipped about. I think the Japanese Birds series has been a little unfair on peoples wallets. I paid roughly £70 for the 'birds in a bag', Important Records are now selling all 13 CDs plus a T-shirt for about £40... Cold Spring are still trying to flog the set for £130 (!) Anyone who bought the CDs individually upon the release paid way over the odds for them. Hospital Hill is currently bothering me, 2 live CDs due out in March? any sign of them? Handmade Birds on the other hand got it just right, It was announced... and like two days later I owned a copy of it... at least there are a few labels around that operate more like that.
Sorry if all that was a bit of a rant, I don't want to pretend I know what goes on behind the scenes with record labels, because I really don't. but I think the fans have had reason to get wound up recently.

Blossoming Noise did things right too. I wish they would continue to put out more Merzbow. Maybe they want to move on to other things...
The cassettes they put out in simple black and white are prized possessions. A bunch of great affordable CD releases too.

I wish I'd collected tapes when those tapes on Blossoming Noise were released... Now they're pretty expensive. From what I've read, preorders can be risky affairs for the buyers. Placenta Recordings' delay is indeed inexcusable, no matter what the reason for it is. There used to be a forum called Noisefanatics (it was shut down earlier this year but I think it's basically continued under a different name) and there was a thread about quite a few people not having received some releases by The New Blockaders that they had ordered from TNB himself a long time before. The thread was like a noise soap opera . People were writing all kinds of things about Richard Rupenus (TNB); some defended him too on the basis of his legendary status. He himself was also a member of the forum but only posted in this thread once or twice, always saying he'd ship immediately or something to that effect. By the time the forum was shut down, only one person on the forum had received their copy, the others continued to wait after more than a year if I remember correctly. So at the end of the day, you can burn yourself with preorders -- I'm certainly happy I haven't had bad luck so far!

It could be worth having a browse on parallaxrecords.jp, I've just come across it (it's all in japanese of course) they have a handful of the blossoming noise tapes for sale on there (although I'm not sure what sort of price they are) I just bought Magnesia Nova and Antimonument on there really cheap compared to discogs etc, international shipping was surprisingly cheap too. It could all go pear shaped, but they seem like a pretty reputable record store from what I can gather. They also have Merzbow shirts and stuff on there. If you're at all interested I can let you know how the order goes

Thanks for the suggestion. They do have some of those tapes although the price is about the same as on Discogs. However, they have other releases for good prices that are really tempting... By the way, there's an option to view the site in English too.

A few days ago i also bought a cassette of samidara. I am interested in this release, but after i read all these crazy stories about Placenta's customer service, i became suspicious. Because of that, i bought my copy (in used condition) by a private seller on discogs. Hopefully i have on this way more luck...

Today I've recieved my copy and I would like to share my thoughts with you about this album.
Overall, I think this is a great album. The album contains many sounds and elements from previous releases, which were reorganized in a new context. Mostly I had recognized elements from the 13 Japanese birds albums. I like the artwork very much, it's a pity that it is not possible to display the whole cover, due of the cassette packaging. The tape seems to be type I/ferric oxide. I am curious if the track titles have a meaning. "Gran 1" has definitely something to do with the sound synthesis. But I have no idea about "samidara" and "ddr". "ddr" could be anything, from "dance dance revolution" to "direct to disc recording" ;D
EDIT: I just saw on wikipedia, that there was a Japanese warship called "Samidare.
