the tweeter feed for 100 followers so to conmemorate this event i decided to buy my first Merzbow CD But in the spirit of public opinion i decided that the final choice would be from the followers Although the only rule actually that it has to be a solo CD from Important Records. Basically ill be buying an album for myself decided on their opinion. ;D If you are not on the MerzbowNews feed on tweeter it doesnt matter. Let me know here which one from Important Records catalog you like the most and ill consider it too. Im just happy that there are so many people that are actually interested in such an abscure genre of music and the artist as well

Hmm, from Important Records...the first one that comes to mind is Merzbeat, then Merzbuddha; those are my two favorite Important releases from Merzbow. Amlux is pretty good. If you're limiting yourself to Important Records, then I would suggest getting Merzbeat. I have a copy, and it's pretty.

I chose important records because i became a fan of Merzbow when he released the 13 japanese birds series so i was constantly cheking for info on the new albums.
My favorite album is Merzbeat but i think by letting the fans choose will broaden my noise taste XD
So far on twitter 2 votes have bee cast. 1 for Karasu (vol 2 of the 13 Japanese Birds) and one for Dharma

Maybe its the weird picture on the youtube video. Anyways i cant buy Dharma, rules said id buy something from Important Records and Dharma is not there.

Amlux is a great album, try not to get disappointed when it turns up and its in nothing more than a cardboard sleeve like you get free with newspapers... just in case you were expecting something rather nicer to cherish.

yeah, merzbow CDs seem to come in all manner of shapes and sizes, out of the ones I have, about half are standard jewel cases, some of them in digipaks... quite alot of them are in cardboard gatefold sleeves (like mini LP sleeves) I think most of the important records ones are like that... some others are in elabourate fold-out paper things (ouroboros, marmo, frog revisited). and some are altogether more strange (eucalypse, tamago etc...) i guess with the amount of stuff merzbow does theres no limit to what he could do packaging wise. not many people could get away with releasing a cd wrapped in chicken wire or in a solid marble box

yeah i like how Merzbow reinvents his packaging as an extension of his art. I do like jewel cases and digipacks but knowing Merzbow there must be a reason beyond economic reasons to why he decided to release the album in such a way.
Btw, i saw Sadomasochismo (i think thats the name) a collaboration between various artists in which Merzbow only appears on one track but it caught my attention because it was two pieces of metal screwed together and the CD on a plastic bag (so it doesnt get scratched or anything) in between the metal fold. It looked weird but cool at the same time. I should have bought it and gave it away. It was like 10 bucks. XD

Its a colaboration, i found the info, link below www.discogs.com/Various-Sadomachinism/release/101974I went to buy this sucker at the store where i found it today and couldnt found it. Maybe some other Merzfan took it on the weekend or maybe its missplaced and ill find it again someday.

I have 3 of them, all very good ones. I've never found a merzbow album in an actual record shop, actually I think I saw one of those recent collaboration/live albums in a shop in London. Record shops in general are rather few and far between out this way...

I don't think I even bothered looking in hmv. That place is ok for buying my mums Christmas presents but everything else becomes a bit pricey unless I occasionally buy something from the charts. There's one record shop in Brighton that I love, its like aladdins cave, so much stuff you can't get through the door, that's the sort of place some merz' might be hiding

I've seen some Merzbow around in record stores, but never a whole lot. When I saw Merzbow in Canada, I stopped by in a record store near the venue Merzbow was playing, and Aqua Necromancer was in the Staff Picks section. It turned out that the guy I bought a CD from there was a local noise artist who ended up opening for Merzbow, so that was a pretty interesting coincidence.
That collaboration album looks super cool. I love that Kid606 is featured. The first album I ever purchased was a Kid606 album.

well fellas, i bought one of those fancy compilation cds on a bit of an impulse.... having a quick listen now and rather impressed with it to tell you the truth.
the Merzbow track kinda sounds like tauromachine ON ACID, but in a strangely more listenable way, starts off with this really thick kind of drum beat, and then it gets really choppy and mental.
kid606's sounds altogether more digital hardcore-ish but more noise based than alot of his stuff, ends up fading away completely into this very minimal vinyl crackle type thing
KK Null and Aube both sound very trippy and hypnotic, i've heard very good things about both of those guys and i like most of what i've heard of their stuff, haven't got round to collecting anything yet though (anyone know a good place to start?)
the other tracks are either quite minimalist or beat driven, more digital sounding, definately worth checking out though

Hmm, the Kid606 song sounds like it's probably very similar to his work on a split EP he did with Omnibot, called Unamerican Activity. He has at least one full on noise track on that release, and his non-noise tracks are rather noisy gabber work.

yeah, im not familiar with that ep, but its certainly alot different to the kid606 i'm familiar with. if anything i prefer it. i have 5 or 6 of his albums, they're all very dancy with hard beats and things. i find he's done some really good standalone songs but i tend to have a bit of a short attention span when it comes to listening to an album. i'm a massive venetian snares fan, i always think of kid606 as much the same but not as good

I also enjoy Venetian Snares, but more his "IDM"-ish works (Huge Chrome Cylinder Box, Rossz Csillag, Hospitality, and various tracks from Chocolate Wheelchair Album, My Downfall, and Horse and Goat). Kill Sound Before Sound Kills You was my first Kid album, which I bought because I heard The Illness played on XM once. I like a number of 606's ambient works, too. I don't listen to him very much anymore. I wouldn't compare him to Vsnares personally.
