Just spotted this on instagram. New live recording to be released by GH records in June. Enhanced CD format includes full video footage, recorded at a festival in Spain way back in 2007. Crazy cover art! gradualhaterecords.bandcamp.com/album/vibra-mmvii

Only downside looks like the running time (does 25 minutes count as a full album?). Unless they need that space on the disc to fit the video on as well?

Yeah I'm not sure but did think that was odd too. In all honestly that preview isn't the most convincing audio/video I've seen, but you never know... Still gonna grab a copy and check it out.

Such an odd little thing, but I've just spotted that in the actual CD edition the cover art (as it appears on bandcamp) is behind the CD tray and the outside jacket features one lomg wrap-around illustration.

I'm gonna have to say a couple of things about this one. It's an incredibly weird mix of things. On the outside, it's all very professional and well presented, nice shiny digipak with lovely hand drawn wrap-around artwork... large full colour sticker on the front, download codes for both audio and video, plus a download code for another album in the label's catalogue. Great. With all that said, how is the album itself so bad? It's bootleg quality audio which I assume comes from the inbuilt microphone on the camera. I wouldn't have a problem with the audio quality necessarily, I understand that some releases serve more as a document than anything resembling a polished album. Groups like Wolf Eyes self-release tons of CDRs simply to say "this is what we've been up to lately" and that to me is perfectly cool. So I'd have been quite happy to have a camera pointed at Masami and simply observe him doing what he does... but the camera work here is simply awful. Constant fidgeting with the tripod, tilting it back and forth, turning it too far one way and turning it too far the other to try and compensate. You'll find yourself saying "Just fucking leave it alone mate" each and every time it happens, and it happens a lot. And then there's the blurry slow motion shots that seem to serve no purpose, they're really quite annoying and you'll be observing washed out extreme close ups of his water bottle or all the cables on the floor while something more interesting is happening off camera. The whole thing is indeed only 25 minutes long, but I assume that was the entirety of his set at the festival. There is a confusing 'skip' or two early on in the footage that looks as if they've removed a chunk of it, although there isn't a noticeable cut in the audio so I don't know what happened. It's a bit odd that this got an 'actual' release given that in this day and age we have the luxury of having decent HQ footage at our fingertips on Youtube via Boilerroom, KEXP, Pitchfork or whoever. This is one to tick off the list if you're a collector, but in reality it feels like someone's college project more than it does a Merzbow album. Sorry if that was all a bit scathing.

That’s a very well-written and informative review! If I had intended to buy this release, I would’ve changed my mind now.
