MenstrualRecordings are preparing to release a couple of CD reissues of Merzbow cassette releases from the mid 80s. -Le Cuisinier -Musick From Simulation World
Looking forward to hearing these, especially having really liked the Escape Mask rerelease from earlier this year. I'm already hoping we get to hear more.

Noticed that, hoped they might have been a bit sooner. There are listings on discogs that have new cover art, I wonder though how they'll be packaged as the cover art is cassette shaped, perhaps a slim dvd case or card folder? (if indeed it's the final artwork) Each is limited to 200 copies.

Yet more re-issues appear to be coming from Menstrual Records, according to their website! The full list (so far!) appears to be:
Merzbow/Null - 'Produktion' - 2xCD reissue of 1988 cassette (possibly expanded, if the original release was a single cassette?) SCUM (Scissors for Cutting Merzbow) - 3xLP/2XCD. (I think all of this material was previously released on Merzbox though?) 'Le Cuisinier' CD reissue of 1983 cassette (limited 200 copies) Due 28th September 'Musick From Simulation World' CD reissue of 1983 cassette (limited 200 copies) Due 28th September 'Pornoise 1KG' 6x CD reissue of 1987 cassette (limited 200 copies) Due 28th September

Great news! I hope this label will continue their archival work. Those Produktion re-releases also planned seem very interesting as they're really obscure material (one of them has never been sold on Discogs and only 1 person appears to have it), much like some of the Italian power electronics/noise stuff Menstrual has been putting out.
Yes, the entire SCUM 2LP is included in the Merzbox.

Awesome. Look forward to seeing what all of these are like. That Merzbow/Null CD will be interesting, there's a huge amount of old cassettes the pair recorded way back in the day that have not had a rerelease, still have my fingers crossed for a 'Duo' style box set of those. I remember really enjoying SCUM when I listened through the early part of the Merzbox, will be good to have it as it's own standalone CD release. Still wondering what sort of a price tag these will have, Hope there's some sort of a deal for the complete set.

Does anyone know if the Merzbow/Null release also features the band Produktion, or does it just happen to be called 'Produktion'? The limited information I can find about this release doesn't seem very clear - some sites seem to think it's the title, other places (like Discogs) seem to think it's the band. It's a bit confusing!

I've only checked Discogs, and based on the scan of the J-card, I think the tape features the band Produktion. The way the tracks are listed suggests this. But it's not 100% clear indeed.
One of the members of Produktion submitted raw materials for the Ecobondage album, by the way.

Decided to order all three from Discogs cos I was thick and couldn't work out what shipping rate I had to go for on their website... I'm still none the wiser to what these are packaged in, It's likely it could be the same DVDigipak style case as Takahe Collage, and the box set is in a 'fold out cover' Will have to wait and see.

Received my order in the post today. I'm yet to listen to them but I'm disappointed by the packaging these are in. Both albums are in plastic CD wallets slipped inside a folded A4 card in another plastic wallet, that's weird but not anything too bad. The Pornoise set really is a concern though in that it has the same packaging... just a slightly larger piece of card in a plastic wallet that is completely incapable of housing six CDs, they weren't even inside the folder when they were sent out... For 36 quid paid, any kind of cardboard box would have been a blessing. Most other Menstrualrecordings CDs are the same price and in Digipaks, why aren't these?

Damn - it sounds disappointing that the CDs don't even fit inside the packaging.

Thank you for your feedbacks on the packagings. Did you listen to the CDs ? I would like to read some feedbacks on the music. Especially about the Le Cuisinier CD. I do plan to order my copies very soon.

I've only heard 'Musick From Simulation World' so far - nothing out of the ordinary, but it's a solid album, so I can recommend that one.

I find it odd that both formats are as a bundle and not available separately, since they both contain exactly the same music. The same expandrd edition was also part if the Merzbox, I remember it being a decent listen actually but I've not heard it in some time.
It would seem Menstrual also have plans to put out CD editions of collections 6 and 8.

It's a bit puzzling. I'm just waiting for someone to re-issue the entire Merzbox on vinyl format - can you imagine the size of the bugger?

I guess that means all of Merzbow’s ‘80s vinyl albums have now been reissued? Except for “Batztoutai”, but that’s easily available on CD (even if it’s a slightly different version). It’s good news that the “Collection” series is slowly being reissued. “Collection 009” (reissued on LP by Urashima) is simply awesome. Strangely, however, the Merzbow/Null/Produktion reissue is no longer listed among the upcoming releases on Menstrual’s website. It’d be a shame if it wasn’t released. However, Menstrual has a habit of releasing unexpected stuff in addition to what they’ve announced as upcoming, so who knows what the future will hold.

A Collection 1-10 (or 12?) wooden box cassette collection by Urashima would be very very heroic for that cult series!
