Great cover. I don't think it will be an ambient record

Hah yeah, I get the impression this one will be pretty relentless! Some real harsh stuff has come out of the 4iB label. I'll admit I'm not familiar with either of the other artists involved here though. I'm glad it's a CD release too, nice and straightforward.

On second thoughts this might be a split rather than a collaboration. Either way, I'm looking forward to it

The cover reminds me of Wolfs Lair Abyss by Mayhem, the artwork of which includes a similarly friendly wolf . I don't know the other two acts either.

soundcloud.com/user9556843Just stumbled across Dao De Noize's Soundcloud page. I'm very impressed, it's good stuff! The track 'Lost Signal II' is especially good. Much of his work reminds me of the Merzbow track 'My Voice At The Pace Of Drifting Clouds' from Lop Lop, that track was always a bit of a standout for me, and I get a similar vibe from these.

Would you mind giving some more details? Is the Merzbow track in the vein of Nezumimochi, or different? How about the other musicians?

Merzbow's track is an interesting one. It's not like Nezumimochi or Wildwood. It's kind of hard to make a comparison, but it reminds me a bit of some of the stuff on Kibako in that it starts out with those bowed strings and some percussion (as in a frantic battering of things, not drumming) There's also a lot of weird chirping noises a bit like albums such as Graft and Dead Zone, but for the most part it's kind of a fresh sound, you do get walls of feedback of course, but there's an awful lot going on besides. Raven's piece is one long passage of Merzbow-esque noise. It does strike me as sounding a bit like something Merzbow could have put out in the 90's, still quite a good listen I guess. Dao De Noize has kind of surprised me, his track is very layered, very continual, some harsh sounds but it's not harsh on the ears as such. His sounds are quite characteristic, very 'buzzy' but all layered with synthesizers and built up and finely crafted. There are some percussive sounds which sound like machinery being heard from the distance... the track is called 'Slaughterhouse Diary' so I guess he was really painting a picture with the sound. A lot of the timbre of Dao De Noize's work in general tends to remind me of the Merzbow track 'My Voice At The Pace Of Drifting Clouds' from LopLop... all very alien. It's a really nice piece.

Something else has just occurred to me, I recall an 'upcoming three way split' being mentioned in an interview some time ago. Just had a look in the cd booklet and merzbow's track was mixed in january 2013, the others in 2013 and 2012 respectively. I wonder what delayed the release by a couple of years. That also reinforces some of what i said about the style of the track, knowing that it's from that point in time

According to 4ib Records, the first 2 tracks are from Merzbow and Raven... the third is from Dao De Noize.

On my copy doesnt, back cover clearly marks each track for each artist. Could scan if you need.

And the Merzbow title 'Granulation 221' appears on Hatobana. There is no mention of Raven in the booklet.

I've only just bought this thing, to find out the Merzbow track isn't exclusive but is taken from another album, which makes this pretty much a waste of money. Oh well.
