As if there weren't enough merzboxsets put out this year... www.touretterecords.com/pages/news.htmlKiyoshi was a member of Merzbow in the 80’s and makes solo works since 1989, though main man Masami Akita has been the backbone of the band in history since 1979. These recordings are from the 87-89 era and some earliest recordings released in the year 1979.
The first abroad tour of MERZBOW was in 1988 in Russia featuring Masami Akita and Kiyoshi Mizutani. The 2nd one was in Europe (Holland, Germany and France) in 1989 and Kiyoshi also joined some shows. During this period they are very active in duo sessions at local studio and made lots of recordings. Some of them were used as raw materials for MERZBOW (solo works of Masami Akita) albums like 'S.C.U.M' (1989) but these original sessions had never been released until now. These recordings are also mirror works of his solo recordings like 'Ecobondage' (87), 'Enclosure' (88) or 'Storage' (88).
Both of us are playing same instruments as Metal Box with Piano Wire and Feedback audio mixer which I built for these recordings. 100 copies will have a bonus CD along with signed card from early times. Duo is not just another album from Merzbow but History put onto the table for your pleasure.Sounds good... more early history of Merzbow is always interesting... I wonder though what the "art edition" entails to justify it being almost twice as expensive aside from the extra CD and card?

I'm not normally one for the boxsets but this is kinda interesting, is there an exact release date? it just says 'out soon'. sometimes when record labels say that it actually means 'out in 6 month time or something, whenever we get round to it, who knows...', I suspect with these guys it'll be pretty soon though ...which reminds me, Goloka hasn't yet surfaced has it? im not sure its likely to tbh

Finally got round to buying one of these. Only had a quick flick through it so far but what I've heard so far is fascinating. This is sort of my introduction to 80s Merzbow, almost completely unfamiliar with it up to this point. People have said some of the recent Merzbow albums brought the sound full circle, Kibako definitely elaborates on the material in this set, and all the jazzy drumming... its all here! Very much in love with the percussive sound of these early recordings, its a bit like someone throwing ball bearings and a load of corrugated iron down a flight of stairs =p ...and the box is beautiful.

I'm now in the middle of some pretty sleek lead guitar work... Merzbow would have been the last artist I'd have thought of upon hearing this, very good stuff though, full of surprises. Enjoying it a lot

I've had this box since January and haven't listened to it yet; got too much other stuff to listen to. However, yesterday I started listening to Merzbient (first 2 CDs done so far) and when I'm done with that, I'm gonna get started on Duo and also the Merzbox which no doubt will be a monumental task. Your description of what you've heard of Duo so far is very intriguing!

My favorite disc has to be the bonus disc. This is probably the earliest Merzbow recording (Off the top of m head) and i love it. My favorite release of Merzbow. Im more of a fan of the raw tapes incase you're wondering.
