In this interview thequietus.com/articles/11806-merzbow-interview you can read about the forthcoming releases. Some of them we already know (Cat's Squirrel, Takahe Collage, Merzgrind) but there is much more: "My new album devoted to birds in New Zealand will be released very soon in the States. I am currently recording music for Animal Rights, a three way split - production is going on in Norway. I'm working on a 3 CD set which will be produced in Hong Kong. Some albums done live in Australia are set to come out, including a duo with Oren Ambarchi. A Grindcore project called MERZGRIND with Balázs is also happening, and we have signed to Relapse."

yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing how all this pans out Pretty keen to see what the 3CD set is. I'm hoping it's something in the line of Turmeric and those kinds of releases rather than archival bits and pieces from old cassettes. there are also plans to release a couple of vinyls with Maurizio Bianchi... but it's early days with that I think Still no sign of Samidara either despite preordering it before christmas and there's that 'calling the rain' 7"

Unbelieveable... Years after delay... Fuckin great!
This collaboration cannot be handled as a Merzbow signmarked stuff, the first 2 was more Nordvargr marked (if we unserstand cold, ambient-like distrortions under this against Merzbows high-frequencied blasts), but I think it has both artists signature, just on an experimental ways. If my oppinion counts for anyone, who cannot found the way, i could recommend Tardyion Storm as my favourite composition with its hidden anger... Btw i cant handle this series for years too, it just found me once in the right moment...

yeah. i thought the preview sounded more nordvargr than merzbow. I've checked out some of his music before, but not a great deal of it. Is there a difference between the music released under the name 'nordvargr' and the music released under 'henrik n bjorrk'? i know its the same guy, i just wondered whether they should be treated as separate projects (like venetian snares and last step) or if it's essentially the same thing.

Im not sure but as I think the conception of the album choose under which name will it be released. I like some of his works, but its need to be in the mood for them, i could suggest Resignation 2 CDr as rhythymical, "musical" work... He released a tape "The Walls Are Closed In" which operates in HNW with a Vomir cover The guy btw a member of MZ.412, Hydra Head and Folkstorm and many others too.

Where did you found these two banners? The first one looks really cool. Kookaburra? Another album which is dedicatet to a bird?

I thought Cat's Squirrel was already released.

I believe Cat's Squirrel (what a title...) has been released as an LP already and the CD version is going to be released on Hospital Hill, along with Kookaburra. Both CDs are live recordings from Sydney last year.
I'm hoping to order that Merzbow/M.B. split 10" very soon.

Yep both are CD releases, I understand there is some high quality video footage of the solo performance, there was some talk about including this in the release, be it with a bonus dvd or a free download card. But that may or may not be the case. I thought these might be out by now, last I heard they were working on special packaging.

Has anybody heard this? It's an upcoming 12" collaboration between Merzbow, Scott Miller and Lee Camfield. A looping doom metal riff with some beeping and ongoing electronic stuff. I've not heard of Scott Miller and Lee Camfield before, apparently both were members of Sutekh Hexen, and Scott miller was once in Cattle Decapitation... It doesn't sound especially Merzbow-esque... I suspect he gave a helping hand rather than a full collaborative effort between the three of them, but I could be wrong soundcloud.com/deadsection/scott-miller-lee-camfield

Yeah, I think its pretty genuine. I noticed it listed in the 'forthcoming' bit on the Wikipedia page. Wasn't all that impressed by the sample though, i'll be honest. Nothing really that adventurous.

I saw these too just yesterday. I wonder why an entire side of that LP is featured on a CD though? It seems like a ripoff to me!

Yeh, does seem a bit odd. I've not seen Merzbow tracks repeated on releases too many times before. I ended up buying a copy... although somehow I don't feel especially proud of the fact that i did since I've spent way too much money on Merzbow stuff already recently... I suppose the artwork looks quite nice if nothing else and I was curious about side B. There's still rather a lot of projects that haven't seen the light of day yet, being a Merzbow fan is making me so impatient haha

We have seen really few albums this year. Maybe he's giving us a wallet break from the huge ammount of box sets last year.
It does sound odd to me that he reused an entire track on another album. Maybe he tweaked it a bit before putting it in this album. I dont really know I am very exited about the rustblade release. He's been releasing cool stuff there every year.

although somehow I don't feel especially proud of the fact that i did since I've spent way too much money on Merzbow stuff already recentlyI know the feeling and especially that of spending way too much on music in general... But even Merzbow alone will make you bankrupt if you're not careful. Please let us know what you think of this LP once you've got it (by the way, I don't like the artwork: is that supposed to be an evil-looking owl? If so, why would an owl have "evil" red eyes?).

haha, I'm not really sure, it all seems to be centered around that red dot, not really sure what sort of significance it has. I quite like the scratchy/painty style of the cover, even if it is almost a parody of every other doom metal/down tempo sort of album sleeve.
First impressions of the album, in all honesty a little underwhelming. Nothing wrong with it as such, just kind of more of the same... I don't dislike it but it's not really exciting me a whole lot. Each piece is built around a continuous rhythm, a beat? With various screeches layered on top of it, they alternate rapidly between being at the forefront and sounding as if they're coming from the distance. Pretty standard I suppose. In all honesty I think the rhythms here outstay their welcome. There are some cool sounds in there though, there's a bit at the beginning of side B that almost does sound like an owl screeching about, and a part later on in the track with a strobing, tremolo effect on top of the rhythm which I like. My main problem is that the most interesting parts are at the very beginning and the very end of each piece, or at the very point where there's a transition in the rhythm... it goes off on an interesting tangent... and just becomes a bit dull or just comes to a close. The interesting parts are cool but few and far between just making those rhythms sound somewhat monotonous. But I'm gonna keep on spinning it, might suddenly click and make sense somehow. I'd be very keen to hear other peoples opinions of it.

This Scott Miller/Lee Camfield/Merzbow thing is still a little bit of an oddball, but apparently the LP is available now, the cassette is due to be released soon, and Cold Spring will be releasing the CD version in the near future. I'm a little more intrigued by it with news of a CD release.
